Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY)
Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is about creating an opportunity for you to safely (re)connect with your body.
Rather than the focus being on learning a particular yoga shape (asana) or breathing technique, the practice offers you an opportunity to explore the present moment by moving and maybe noticing sensations in your body.
TCTSY offers you an opportunity to explore making choices about movements you may be interested in trying out. Different options are presented and you have complete choice over how (or if) you choose to move.
Trauma Sensitive Yoga can be practised in a group or one-to-one.
Hi, I’m Lauren,
My yoga journey started at my local gym in my early twenties.
At the time I struggled with self-image and didn’t feel at home in skin.
Yoga helped me find confidence and trust in my body.
practising yoga and working with my breath meant I had to slow down.
As well as becoming aware of my body, I became more aware of my thoughts and reactions.
I started reading yoga philosophy, and I began to understand that I was more than my thoughts; they didn’t define me.
For the first time, I became aware that I could choose whether or not I reacted to my thoughts.
That was life-changing because it meant I could to change my outlook on so many levels
Yoga had such a positive impact on my sense of self, that in 2010 I embarked on a journey to become a yoga teacher and haven’t looked back since.
My teaching style
I teach Ashtanga Yoga through a trauma-informed lens, and I offer yoga sessions designed specifically for survivors of complex trauma.
I’m a Level 2 Authorised Ashtanga Yoga Teacher which means I’ve spent many years studying at the source of Ashtanga Yoga in Mysore, India; and can teach you primary and intermediate series.
My approach to Ashtanga yoga is non-dogmatic. I take a person-centred approach that addresses the needs of you, the practitioner rather than following a prescribed set of rules.
I’m passionate about using the skills and knowledge I’ve gained over many years of study to guide you in a practice that nourishes and supports you. making you feel better than ever!
If you have any questions about my teaching feel free to get in touch
You’ve completed your 200hour Yoga Teacher training and are looking to take your first steps into teaching yoga full time
Or perhaps you’ve been teaching for a while and are looking to up-skill or make your yoga classes more trauma-informed
Yoga Teacher Mentoring
For many years I didn’t have confidence in my ability as a yoga teacher. I felt like if I only did X training or gained Y experience then I’d be enough. Of course, it wasn’t really about how many trainings I’d done but more about trusting myself and having confidence in my abilities.
If you are looking for advice on taking your first steps into teaching, you’d like to learn more about adjusting asana or teaching in a way that’s trauma-informed, or anything else, please get in touch!
I offer mentoring calls or meet-ups for 30 minutes or 1-hour time slots at a flat rate.
I am the co-founder of YOGA MENTOR ACADEMY with Ashley Ahrens
